• Instructors need to have a genuine connection with the kids. Find the balance between role model, friend and disciplinarian.
• The program needs to be well-organized and entertaining in order to keep the attention of the children.
• Instructors need to understand the children's strengths and weaknesses.
• Instructors need to recognize the reasons why kids don't participate - a) don't know how or b) fear failure.
• Eliminate negatives and create positive experiences.
• Find a balance between high success rate activities and activities that challenge the kids.
